Thanks to everyone who came out to see us at Tio Leo's Lounge in February. Some rooms just always feel good in a quirky kind of way, and we've had a long run of unexpectedly great shows there over the years. This night was no exception.
Our set list was a mix of old, new and newer. Straight to the Top is a jazzy new tune that we've been playing lately. Occasionally Daniel joins us on sax for a little schlomp-de-schlomp. Mike, in rare form that night, busted out the bug goggles, which (we learned later) completed blinded him. He played the whole song without the benefit of sight. We don't know why. Drummers do funny things. I thought he was just ignoring me.
Cold North (E-III) is becoming a fixture in our set. It's been with us for a long time, but we've never played it until recently because of the obvious absence of the violin, an important part on the recorded version. Lately, I've been adapting the part to my bass and it's working well. Happily, it's a great song for Brett to open up wide and send those soaring notes out into the atmosphere. They're beauties.
Other songs included Looking for Love, Suck It Up, Empty Pockets, Music Nation (new), Growing Wise and I Took The Time (new... which featured Brett on lead vox).
Thanks to Bill Julius of A and E Studios for capturing the night on film for us. And to Jonny Desatoff at Clippery West for transforming me into something worth capturing.
