Shipping & Returns

Shipping Rates

Currently we only ship to addresses within the United States.

A flat rate of $5.00 will be added to accessory orders for shipping and handling.

Any instruments that are shipped from Ellis Music incur the following shipping/handling charge:

  • $15 - Piccolo, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Trumpet, Violin, Viola
  • $20 - Bassoon, Alto Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, French Horn, Trombone, Drum, Percussion Kit, Guitar
  • $25 - Baritone Horn

Shipping charges for larger or heavier instruments will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

Most books and other small items will be sent via USPS First Class or Priority Mail (depending on weight). Large or heavy items are typically sent via UPS Ground. Expedited shipping may be available at extra cost.

We do our best to ship all orders within 2 business days of receipt of your order. Musical instruments are held for shipping until payment has cleared. In the event that an item is backordered you will be notified by email. Special order merchandise must be ordered from the manufacturer and often takes 2 to 4 weeks to arrive at our store in Bethel, at which point we will do our best to ship within 2 business days.

Return Policy

Accessory items that are unopened and unused may be returned within 30 days of the date purchased. When a qualifying item is returned, we will refund the cost of the item plus sales tax, minus shipping/handling costs incurred by Ellis Music and any applicable restocking fee. Unopened and unused items may be exchanged for a similar item of the same cost. Returns not resulting from an error we made in filling your order may be subject to a 15% restocking fee. Any item that is not returned in the condition in which it was received or has obvious signs of use may not be eligible for a refund.

Ellis Music does not accept returns of the following items (unless defective):

  • Oboe and bassoon reeds
  • Opened boxes of clarinet or saxophone reeds
  • Kazoos or recorders
  • Gift certificates
  • Books that have been written in
  • Clearance or reduced price sale items
  • Special order merchandise

Ellis Music will pay the return shipping costs if the return is a result of our error (for example, you received an incorrect item). In all other instances, the customer will incur any shipping cost required to return accessories or instruments to Ellis Music. Any discrepancies between what you ordered and what you received must be reported within 30 days of shipment; we cannot honor any claims made after that time. If an item appears to have been damaged during shipment, please retain all packing materials, as the carrier may need to inspect them.

Purchased musical instruments may be returned within 14 days of the date purchased with prior approval from Ellis Music; a $20 restocking fee will be assessed for purchased instrument returns. If exchanging the instrument for another of similar value, Ellis Music may choose to waive the restocking fee.

A copy of the original sale invoice (store invoice or printed online order receipt) will be required when returning items as proof of purchase.

When returning merchandise, please follow these guidelines:

  1. Returned item(s) can be brought to Ellis Music during business hours or shipped via UPS, Fedex, or U.S. Postal Service. See our contact page for the proper address; UPS and Fedex require the physical address, while the USPS requires our PO Box address.
  2. Return in original packing material when possible.
  3. Enclose the invoice or packing slip that came with your order and a note stating why you are returning the item(s). This will help us process your return more efficiently.
  4. We recommend using a shipping service that offers tracking and insurance; Ellis Music is not responsible if your return gets lost in transit.

You should expect to receive your refund within four weeks of giving your package to the shipper; however, in many cases you will receive a refund more quickly. Refunds for credit card purchases must be applied to the same card that was used to make the purchase. If you used a gift certificate to pay for all or part of an item you want to return, you will be sent a gift certificate in the amount of the refund, to be used toward a future purchase.
