Ellis Music is a family owned music store employing fewer than 20 workers but serving over 400 schools and thousands of individuals throughout Vermont and much of New Hampshire with instrument sales and rentals, repair services, supplies, and sheet music.

Customer Service Professional

Location: Bethel, VT
Schedule: Full-Time, Mon–Fri (some Saturdays); overtime late Aug–mid Oct (compensated)

Ellis Music Company is a family‑owned business specializing in school music instrument rentals, sales, and repairs throughout Vermont and New Hampshire. We’re seeking a friendly, dependable professional to handle customer inquiries and sales transactions, help process musical instruments, and act as a liaison between customers and our account representatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Customer Interaction & Sales
    • Answer telephone and email inquiries promptly and professionally
    • Greet customers entering the store
    • Assist customers with rentals, purchases, financing, and service scheduling
    • Recommend products, explain features, and promote rental programs
  • Account Support & Liaison
    • Serve as the point of contact between customers and the store's educational representatives
    • Follow up on orders, repair estimates, returns, and billing issues
  • Operational Support
    • Process sales transactions, rental returns, and incoming repairs
    • Process online rental contracts
    • Organize and file office documents
    • Restock showroom merchandise and maintain organized displays
    • Keep product and policy knowledge up to date
  • Collaboration & Flexibility
    • Work independently with minimal supervision
    • Pitch in with team duties and cover tasks for colleagues when needed

What We’re Looking For

  • Qualifications
    • High school diploma (college degree preferred)
    • Previous sales experience in a retail setting (preferred)
    • Basic computer literacy; quick to learn POS/inventory systems
    • Familiarity with musical instruments and supplies or motivation to learn
  • Skills & Attributes
    • Pleasant and professional demeanor
    • Excellent written and verbal communication with proper customer etiquette
    • Strong organization, multitasking, and attention to detail
    • Able to lift/carry up to 20 lbs frequently
