Ellis Music Shipping Policy
We currently only accept internet orders from within the United States. If you live outside those countries and would like to inquire about placing an order, you can submit our international order inquiry form.
A flat rate of $5.00 will be added to music and supply orders shipped to addresses within the United States unless otherwise specified. Certain items that are more costly to ship, such as music stands and mutes, may be subject to a surcharge. If the shipping cost will be greater than what was disclosed during checkout, someone from Ellis Music will contact you.
Most books and other small items will be sent via USPS Ground Advantage. Large or heavy items are typically sent via UPS Ground. Expedited shipping may be available at extra cost.
Any instruments shipped from Ellis Music incur the following shipping/handling charge:
- $20 - Piccolo, Flute, Oboe, English Horn, Clarinet, Soprano Saxophone, Trumpet, Flugelhorn, Violin, Viola, Ukulele
- $25 - Bassoon, Alto Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Trombone, Snare Drum, Percussion Kit, Guitar
- $30 - French Horn, Baritone Horn
- $60 or more - Korg digital piano, Yamaha drum set
Shipping charges for other instruments will be determined on a case-by-case basis. We do not ship cellos and double basses, but can typically make delivery arrangements via schools in Vermont or New Hampshire during the academic year.
We do our best to ship all orders within two business days of receipt of your order. Musical instruments are held for shipping until payment has cleared. In the event that an item is backordered you will be notified by email. Special order merchandise must be ordered from the manufacturer and often takes 2 to 4 weeks to arrive at our store in Bethel, at which point we will do our best to ship within two business days.
Regarding School Delivery: Vermont and New Hampshire customers with children in schools served by Ellis Music have the option of school delivery. We have representatives who travel regularly to schools throughout Vermont and many parts of New Hampshire. If you select the free school delivery option, it is likely that your order will be delivered within 7 days, but timing can vary from 1 to 21 days due to a variety of factors. We travel to a specific set of schools on each day of the week. Our representatives do not travel to schools when the schools are closed, including vacations and snow days. Orders delivered to schools are typically left with the music teacher. School delivery is available during the academic year only.

Sometimes. In order to focus on providing the best possible service to our customers, who live primarily in the United States, our website is designed to accept orders from the U.S. only. If you live outside the United States and are interested in placing an order, please submit our international order inquiry form to send us the information required. If we can accommodate your request, you will be sent a shipping estimate and a payment request. As with all internet orders, payment in full must be received and cleared before items can be shipped.
Yes, as long as the following criteria are met.
- Your child attends (or you work at) a school in Vermont or New Hampshire that is serviced by Ellis Music Company.
- The school allows deliveries by Ellis Music.
- School is in session. (School delivery is available September through mid-June only.)
- You select that option during the checkout process.
Be aware that items delivered to schools may take up to 14 days to arrive because of school vacations/closings and other circumstances, though they usually arrive much sooner. Your order will typically be delivered during the next regularly scheduled trip to the school.
Ellis Music offers flat rate shipping on most products. However, certain items (including instruments) cost us more to ship. A shipping surcharge is attached to those items. If you add an item to your shopping cart that is subject to a shipping surcharge, the surcharge amount will also appear in your cart. This shipping surcharge will be included in the total shown on your receipt during checkout regardless of the shipping method you selected. However, it will only be charged if your order is shipped via USPS/UPS.
