Emerson Gale teaches joy-based violin, cello and ukulele lessons to ages 5-100 in Orange and Windsor Counties. He gives private lesson at the Upper Valley Waldorf School, The Seven Stars Arts Center, and the Open Fields School as well as traveling around the Upper Valley for home lessons. He also enjoys conducting The Sharon Academy’s Music Theory & Composition classes.

Emerson studied classical violin in college and then music therapy for his Master’s degree. After serving as youth music camp director in Hangzhou China for 4 summers, he relocated to Vermont to set up his studio closer to his family. He plays lead fiddle for various contradances and private events as well cello for the Vermont Fiddle Orchestra. You can also find him performing Christmas music on violin and ukulele or serving as an accompanist on cello for a variety of traditional music gatherings.

I specialize in teaching beginning fiddle, clawhammer style banjo, and ukulele to young children ages 4 to 7 as well as clawhammer banjo and fiddle to beginners and intermediate level students of all ages from 4 through senior citizens. Lessons are tailored to the individual and the love and enjoyment of music is taught through a creative process with a whole person approach. For the youngest children, lessons include imaginative play to keep things fun and motivating. I have been teaching in Vermont since 1990 and currently live in Winooski where my studio is located. Since 2020, virtual lessons have become a partial component of my work and I have developed a fun way to do virtual lessons successfully with 5 year olds to adults. I host several events yearly and support my students in participating in appropriate local group events and camps.

I majored in music education on viola at the Crane School of Music and played in countless orchestras and string quartets in my early years of musicianship. In the mid-nineties I crossed over to mainly playing the fiddle and hosted several fiddle camps in the central Vermont area with Sarah Blair and Beth Telford. In 2003 I founded the Vermont Fiddle Orchestra and directed it for its first decade. I taught K-12 strings at Northfield Schools for 9 years and was on the faculty of Northeast Heritage Music Camp for 13 seasons. I have been on the faculty of Young Tradition Vermont Trad Camp for several seasons as well. I now teach exclusively private lessons at my home in Winooski and draw on these many decades of experience in my work. I am known for being patient and kind as a teacher and have helped thousands of budding musicians get off to a good start and fall in love with music making.

Hi! I am offering music lessons in guitar, ukulele, clarinet, composition, theory, and improvisaiton from my home studio in Winooski, VT. Lessons are designed to be fun, engaging, and tailored to individual interests. I can teach beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels in a variety of styles including pop/rock, jazz, blues, acoustic, electric, fingerstyle, country, metal, and folk. I can also provide specialized lessons for individuals with disabilities, whether it be physical, mental, or intellectual.

I currently teach guitar at the University of Vermont and have over 14 years experience teaching youths at an alternative school. My education includes a Bachelor of Music, Master’s Degree in School Counseling, as well as additional graduate studies in music.

As a performer, I maintain a busy performance schedule that includes performances with Guagua, Trio Gusto, The Funk Collection, Marty Fogel, and Jake Whitesell Trio. Some recent performances of mine include playing lead guitar in UVM’s production of Jesus Christ Superstar, and performing latin jazz with Ray Vega at the FlynnSpace.
