Dr. Evangelia Leontis has extensive experience teaching classical voice to singers of all levels, ages, and musical backgrounds. She strives to help students discover the tools they need to communicate with the world through the medium of music and always aims to teach the entire person; mind, body, and soul, by bringing compassion, empathy, and warmth to every interaction with a student. Her instruction is rooted in a thorough knowledge and understanding of vocal pedagogy and voice science that is complimented by a background in yoga and the Alexander Technique. She is also a lover of languages and has a passion for teaching and coaching lyric diction.
Previously, Dr. Leontis served on the voice faculties of the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley where she taught Applied Voice, Song Literature, Lyric Diction, Vocal Methods, and directed the opera, the New England Conservatory Preparatory School, and Guilford College. She spent five summers serving on the voice faculty of the Boston University Tanglewood Institute's Young Artist Vocal Program teaching voice, diction, and yoga for singers, as well as directing opera scenes. Dr. Leontis is a full member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), an organization for which she regularly adjudicates, and the College Music Society.
In 2017 Dr. Leontis traveled to Bali, Indonesia to complete the YogaWorks 200 hour yoga teacher training certification. She is now exploring ways to incorporate yogic concepts of alignment, breath, and philosophy into teaching voice and is offering Yoga For Singers Classes and Workshops. She has presented workshops at the Boston Conservatory, Texas A & M Kingsville, the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, Keene State College, the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, the New School of Music, and Greensboro College.
Dr. Leontis teaches privately in the Manchester, VT area and serves on the voice faculties of Keene State College and Castleton University.
